Parents and Families,
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we navigated the recent unexpected challenges. We truly appreciate your support!

As promised, Parent-Teacher Conferences have been rescheduled for Tuesday from 4:00 PM–7:00 PM. Our teachers are excited and eager to share the amazing things your children are doing in our school and discuss their progress and growth.

🚨 3rd Grade Parents: Attendance is required. In addition to meeting with your child’s teacher, please be sure to stop by and visit with our Elementary Dean of Academics, Ms. Jones. She has very important documents to review and share with you.

We look forward to seeing you and continuing to partner together to support your child’s success. Let’s keep soaring! 🦅✨
Dismissal Update

📢 Important Dismissal Update – Please Read Carefully

Last week presented some unexpected challenges with early dismissal on Thursday and Friday. While it was not ideal, I am truly grateful for your patience, flexibility, and partnership. Challenges often bring lessons, and we are committed to using those lessons to improve our systems for safety and efficiency.

As a result, we are making a small but important change to dismissal procedures:

🚗 Car Rider Line:
We ask that all students be picked up through the designated car rider line no later than 3:30 PM.

🏫 After 3:30 PM:
Students who are not picked up by 3:30 PM in the car rider line will be relocated to the Elementary Cafeteria for pickup.

🚫 Front of Building Pickup:
Beginning today, students will no longer be picked up at the front of the building. All late pickups must report to the Elementary Cafeteria.
Black History Month 2026

🖤💛 Black History Month Celebration Update (PreK–8) 💛🖤

February is the month we celebrate Black History and honor the beauty, excellence, and legacy of culture. These dress out days are for ALL PreK–8th grade students, and everyone is invited to participate.

We originally planned for students to dress out each Friday; however, due to winter weather and school closures, we will make a small adjustment.

✨ Make-Up Day:
📅 Monday – Students may celebrate the beauty of melanin by wearing shades of brown to make up for the missed Friday.

Students will then continue to celebrate Black History Month by participating in our scheduled dress-out days as outlined on the flyer:

📅 2/13 – Black Icons Day
📅 2/20 – All Black Excellence Day
📅 2/26 – Decades Parade
Students should dress according to their assigned decade

📅 2/27 – Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Day
Students may wear HBCU gear, college gear, or Greek colors representing who they aspire to be when they grow up.

A special thank you to our 5th grade team for their collaboration and leadership in planning this meaningful month of celebration. We look forward to honoring history, culture, and excellence together! 🦅✨

Principal's Message

Dear Memphis School of Excellence Mendenhall Families,

Welcome to another exciting year at Memphis School of Excellence Mendenhall! Whether you are new to our Eagle family or returning for another year, we are thrilled to have you with us on this journey of learning, growth, and success.
Our school-wide theme — Show Up. Own It. Achieve. Rise. — serves as our guiding vision each day:

Show Up ready to learn, engage, and give your best effort.

Own It by taking responsibility for your actions, choices, and growth.

Achieve your goals through hard work, persistence, and a belief in your potential.

Rise above challenges while inspiring and supporting others along the way.

At MSE Mendenhall, we believe in creating a safe, engaging, and rigorous learning environment where every student can thrive. Our dedicated staff works tirelessly to provide meaningful instruction, build strong relationships, and offer opportunities for students to explore their talents and passions.

We know that education is most powerful when it’s a partnership between school and home. Your support — through encouraging good attendance, promoting a love of learning, and staying engaged in school activities — plays an essential role in your child’s success. Together, we can help every Eagle soar to new heights.

I am honored to serve as your principal and look forward to a year filled with growth, achievement, and unforgettable moments. Let’s work together to make this a year where we Show Up, Own It, Achieve, and Rise — every single day.

With Eagle Pride,
Relista Ward
Principal
