Course Description: The curriculum for this course aligns with the Tennessee Academic Standards for Mathematics which may be viewed on the Tennessee Department of Education website. https://tinyurl.com/2zyk2ybe
Curriculum: This year students will be using the following curriculum: Curriculum Associates i-Ready Mathematics. Students will also be using this online platform for practice on areas of refinement identified by data from benchmark testing.
Topics of Study:
The Number System (NS):
- Know that there are numbers that are not rational, and approximate them by rational numbers.
Expressions and Equations (EE):
-
Work with radicals and integer exponents.
-
Understand the connections between proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations.
-
Analyze and solve linear equations and pairs of simultaneous linear equations.
Functions (F)
- Define, evaluate, and compare functions
- Use functions to model relationships between quantities
Geometry (G)
-
Understand congruence and similarity using physical models, transparencies, or geometry software.
-
Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem.
-
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
Statistics and Probability (SP)
-
Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data.
MAP Assessment:
Students will use the NWEA MAP assessment for progress monitoring.
IXL:
Students will be using this online platform to strengthen areas of refinement, for practice, as well as enrichment activities during the class period. Students can access this platform at home for practice at this website: https://tinyurl.com/594m3zt4 Click login and enter your username and password.
Moby Max:
Students will be using this online platform to strengthen areas of refinement, close learning gaps, classroom practice, as well as enrichment activities during the class period. Students can access this platform at home for practice at this website: https://www.mobymax.com/
Khan Academy:
This is a great resource for both students and parents to use. This learning platform offers videos and practice activities for students to use both at home and at school. Students will be using this online platform to strengthen areas of refinement, for practice, as well as enrichment activities during the class period. Students can access this platform at home for practice at this

Homework
All homework should be completed and submitted the following day.
Late Work
Late assignments including homework must be put into the “late work” tray, and will receive a deduction of two points each day it is late.
Make-Up Work
Students who are absent should check the make up work folder on the wall for assignments. All assignments should be turned in within 3 days. If we are virtual, students should check google classroom for missing assignments.
Grading
We will follow the Shelby County District Grading Policy. The Grading Scale is as follows:
A 100-90
B 89-80
C 79-70
D 69-60
F Below 59
Redo and Retake
It is encouraged that students redo and retake assignments as needed. Students will have up to 2 days to redo or retake any assignment below 75% after they have received their graded paper. (ex. Graded paper is given back on Tuesday. The student must submit the redo by Thursday.) Initial grades will be recorded and will remain until the new assignment is graded. No new assignments will be accepted after the two day deadline.
Technology:
In the event of laptops being issued to the students and used in the classroom for educational purposes, students and parents will be required to sign and adhere to the MSE Technology Policies and the User Agreement. Any student having issues with their devices or accessing school designated platforms should contact https://tinyurl.com/524dm2nk
Plagiarism/ Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is expected on all assignments. Plagiarism is defined as presenting the work of another as one’s own. Cheating on an assignment or assessment is another activity that violates ethics and school rules. Any work that exhibits cheating/plagiarism, will result in a zero, parental notification, and disciplinary action may be taken.
